About Us

The Canine Barkyard (TCB) is owned and operated by an experienced dog trainer, Donnalyn Moran. Donnalyn started Homefront Canine, a dog training company and operated Wagside Inn, an established boarding facility in Cuyler, over the last 4 years! Her dream was to open a facility in Cortland that was convenient for her clients to train, board, and play at. In 2020, that dream came true.

Being a dog behavior expert has given Donnalyn the ability to fully train her staff in the ability to match dogs up for compatible play groups, understand dog behavior, body language , and proper introduction of dogs! TCB is a 8,000 square foot facility on 0.8 acres conveniently located off interstate 81 and exit 12.

What are we doing to keep your dog healthy?

Dogs can pick up and transmit illness from any environment where other dogs have walked (pet stores, vet offices, parks, etc. Just like people, dogs can feel under the weather based on this or the season! It is always best to do what we can to keep our dogs healthy.

  • We use ASPCA and VIROX dog housing cleaning protocols to clean all play and housing areas in our facility

  • We use Rescue Disinfectant to kill harmful bacteria - learn more about it here

  • We use Kaivac Cleaning systems to kennels more effectively

  • We clean dog stools immediately to prevent dogs from stepping, tracking or even eating the stool

  • We keep you in the loop! Our staff will let you know if you dog seems under the weather or is experience any abnormal symptoms

How can you help keep your dog healthy?

  • Using a monthly broad-spectrum parasiticide (such as interceptor plus) can help the contraction and prevent the spread of parasites!

  • Keep your dog up to date on all vaccinations - when receiving the live vaccine of Bordatella please refrain from bringing your dog in 10 days after the shot was administered

  • Bi-Annual fecal exams can help you determine and treat your dog for unknown parasites. Parasites can cause your dog to lose weight, have soft stools, and cause vomiting

  • Paying attention to your dogs stool changes can help you know how they may be feeling! Be sure to report it to us if your dog hasn't been feeling well or has as soft stool - this can help prevent the spread

  • Keep us in the loop - has your dog been feeling off, showing abnormal symptoms or been diagnosed with something? It may be best to keep your dog home and to ask your vet how long of a quarantine your dog should have from other dogs!
